RAIPUR: In a major breakthrough, Chhattisgarh police team in joint collaboration with Delhi-based NGO Shakti Vahini, traced 18-year-old girl who went missing in 2006 ago as a teen. She was rescued from a residence at North Delhi’s model town area on Wednesday evening. The girl was abducted from a community fair at Jashpur by one Poonam and her husband Sanjay who run Poonam placement agency in Delhi.
Prima facie proceedings show that girl was sold for Rs 35,000 to the family to work as domestic help for a year and she has alleged of getting assaulted and beaten up by Poonam and husband.
Police late on Wednesday arrested Poonam and her husband from Jashpur.
“With this special campaign going on Chhattisgarh, preliminary reports clearly show that there might be many more such girls getting assaulted whose missing reports haven’t been lodged. As a member of an NGO, I suggest special panchayat to be conducted wherein people report about their missing children which should be forwarded to police station followed by an FIR,” said Rishi Kant, Shakti Vahini.
