Shakti Vahini in coordination with the Student Union of Delhi School of Social Work has organized an inter College Debate “Dr. S. Selvam Memorial Annual Debate Competition” in the auditorium of DSSW on March 19, 2012.
Altogether 25 participants from different colleges had spoken either for or against the topic “THE DIVERSITY OF INDIA NECESSITATES POLICING OF SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES.”
The programme was inaugurated by the Head of the Department of Delhi School of Social Work Prof. Sushma Batra. In her speech she spoke about the partnership between Shakti Vahini and the DSSW. She said, “The partnership between Shakti Vahini and DSSW is very important as the students of the Social work department are getting much exposure on the social issues by working as interns in Shakti Vahini.” She also emphasized on the strengthening of partnership between Shakti Vahini and DSSW.
Advocate Ravi Kant, the President, Shakti Vahini also spoke in the occasion. He said, “Shakti Vahini believes in partnership and will continue to support the Annual Debate Competition. The students working as interns in Shakti Vahini are of great help in organizing this programme. Every year the interns of the DSSW deputed in Shakti Vahini will take the initiative and organize the same with the support of our organization.”
Surprisingly four participants clubbed together for the second and third prize. The first prize went to Mr. Anjum Sharma from Ramjas College. Four participants scored same marks they are Risha Baruah from Delhi school of Social Work, Arti Devi from South Campus, Neel Parmer and Preeti Kumari from Ramlal Anand College. The best interjectors are Rangnath Ravi from Dept. of Chemistry, Delhi University and Anoop from Kirorimal College.
The Annual Debate is organised by the Student Union of Delhi School of Social Work in memory of Dr S Selvam who was a faculty of the DSSW.
