A day after a seven-year-old girl was gang-raped in Laxman Vihar here, the police on Friday arrested both the accused in the case. “The two have been arrested and identified as Chhotu alias Ravi Das and Naresh. They lured the girl with a chocolate to a nearby house on Thursday evening and took turns to rape her,” said a senior police officer. Naresh is a neighbour of the victim, whose family belongs to Bihar. The girl is under treatment at a hospital. Meanwhile, Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner P.C. Meena, as head of District Child Welfare Council, gave a cheque for Rs.1 lakh to the victim’s father and the amount would be reimbursed from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Terming the payment of compensation a “knee-jerk” reaction of the government in view of the adverse publicity for its handling of rape cases, non-government organisation Shakti Vahini President Ravi Kant demanded that the government
immediately notify the Victim Compensation Scheme so that all rape victims could be provided compensation.
