Woman rescued from Haryana

TIMES OF INDIA

MALDA:  A 24-year-old woman, who was sold off to a man in Haryana by a youth who had promised to marry her, was rescued late last month. She was handed over to her family in North Dinajpur’s Karandighi on September 30. The woman had apparently never met the youth, who called himself Raju. They would talk on the cellphone for hours and sometime in August, he asked her to marry him. According to the plans, she met Raju at Domohona and the duo took the Delhi-bound Mahananda Express on August 25.

On reaching Delhi, they took a bus to Jind in Haryana. There she was taken to a house and before long it became clear to the woman that she had been cheated. She, however, had her cellphone with her and called up her family. They got in touch with an NGO and the latter along with police of both states rescued the victim.
