NHRC takes cognizance of plight of tribal girls migrating from Jharkhand to Delhi: issues notices to DGP, Jharkhand and CP, Delhi

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo-motu cognizance of media reports that hundreds of tribal girls, lured to the Metros and, in particular, Delhi on the pretext of providing employment, lead to a miserable life as domestic help. Allegedly, two tribal girls, who migrated from Khunti District of Jharkhand to work as domestic help were found dead within two days in mysterious circumstances in Delhi. The reports allege missing of several other tribal girls. The Commission has observed that the contents of the press reports, if true, a serious violation of human rights of children. Notices have been issued to the DGP, Jharkhand and the Commissioner of Police, Delhi to submit reports within four weeks.
